A LEED professional credential denotes proficiency in today’s sustainable design, construction and operations standards. Part of that proficiency is staying up to date on the latest industry innovations. LEED professionals are thus required to maintain their credential by earning Continuing Education (CE) credits.

And this is exactly what the Green Building Research Institute (GBRI) will help LEED professionals earn through their recent collaboration with Wattics – a company known for developing energy management software. GBRI has listed FREE Wattics webinars on their website that LEED professionals would just need to watch, and then complete the corresponding quiz to earn CE credit.

In the words of Felicia Fuller, Operations Manager, GBRI, “GBRI is very excited to be partnering with Wattics. We feel the material already being developed by Wattics is very much in line with what we offer here at GBRI. Getting the courses approved for CE credit allows those already viewing them to also receive credit which makes them that much more appealing!”

As of now, there are four Wattics webinars listed on the GBRI website:

Webinar 1 – Chasing net-zero buildings/facilities: ‘Old hat’ or chasing the near impossible?

Description: Professor Tony Day, now Independent Energy Research Consultant, and most recently Director at the International Energy Research Centre (IERC) explores the net-zero concept and how it applies to the built environment.

Webinar 2 – Digital Energy Trends 2020-2030: Key Opportunities for ESCOs, Consultants and Utilities

Description: Gerard Reid, Co-founder and partner at Alexa Capital (UK) discusses the digital energy technologies projected for the highest growth and revenue potential over the next decade. Leveraging his 15+ year career in investment banking and focusing on both the energy transition and digital energy revolution, Gerard also weighs in on the impact of COVID-19 on the global energy sector’s shift from fossil-based systems.

Webinar 3 – Unlocking the potential of data analytics for building energy management and certification

Description: Gautami Palanki, Director at GBCI’s Arc Skoru, expands on the role of data analytics for building energy management and green building certification. This webinar also provides a comprehensive overview and benefits of the Arc digital platform – the online interface for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.

Webinar 4 – How a global luxury retailer became the first in the world to achieve Gold rating under LEEDv4.1 O+M green building certification

Description: In this webinar, Wattics Partner, BEE Incorporations, a multi-national sustainability-focused engineering consultancy, will expand on how it helped its client, a global luxury fashion retailer, become the very first to achieve Gold under LEEDv4.1 O+M green building certification for its stores. Using the case study as an example, BEE will also elaborate on the role of energy monitoring and analytics, and the GBCI’s digital platform to track building performance data for LEED certification (Arc Skoru).

How to earn CE credits from the above listed FREE Wattics webinars?

If you are a LEED professional looking to earn CE credit, you just need to go to GBRI’s Learning Hub Portal and create a FREE account. Then, you can watch the free Wattics presentations or webinars on the Learning Hub Portal, and later click the “Complete Quiz to Earn CE credit” button to complete the corresponding quiz.

If you wish to have your hours automatically reported to USGBC and/or AIA please go to the account section of the portal prior to completing your quiz to update your reporting information. A certificate of completion will be issued immediately after you pass the quiz, and if you wish to self-report your hours, you can use the information in your certificate to do so.

Wattics – Who They Are

Wattics simplifies building energy management through a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform. Their energy analytics tools help energy service companies, energy consultancies, as well as green building, and facility management professionals discover energy and cost saving opportunities that will improve their building’s/business’s performance.

The software platform enables the collection, management, and analysis of utility/IoT/sub-meter data to conduct energy audits, forecast savings, benchmark building portfolios and analyze KPIs, measure and verify efficiency and renewable energy projects, analyze tariffs and create sustainability reports at scale.

On partnership with GBRI, Amy Ryan, Head of Marketing, Wattics, says, “This partnership offers energy and sustainability professionals with both the academic material and the practical project examples that promote continuous learning in the green building and sustainability space. We are delighted to be partnering with the GBRI and look forward to many collaborative opportunities to engage in joint learning activities which benefit the global green building community.”
